Publication Assignment 2: Cinco de Mayo

ELEMENTARY POWER: McCallum celebrated Cinco de Mayo on Friday, May 13th. An elementary school group came in and danced to some spanish music. There were a few sound difficulties, but the kids went along with it and they were superstars! They were very cute, and the crowd went wild.

DRUMMING IT OUT: The McCallum Samba Dancers performed two songs with their percussion instruments. They were in sync the entire time and they put a lot of fun energy into the theater.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS: A group from Dallas came in and performed a few dances for us. The costumes and outfits were very bright and colorful, and it seemed like an accurate representation of a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

The Present

I think the most powerful moment is when the boy stands up and he had an amputated leg as well. It explains his disgust at first, but it is really powerful at the end.

Jump Start Your Photography

1. Check Out Flickr's Explore
 I would find really cool looking ones and try to do something like it or draw inspiration from it

2. Go Through Your CD Covers
CD covers usually have really cool art/photography on it, usually very unique, which could be used as inspiration

3. Look 360
Taking different angles and observing the environment is a good way to find interesting subjects

4. Shoot a Gorgeous Model
It's fun to shoot people, and you can experiment with styles and composition

5. See an Art Show
Art can be abstract, which can be great for ideas

6. Take on a Photo Assignment or Challenge
It's good to have something to focus on- it's easier to find what you want to shoot and to get a good picture from it.

7. Shoot Your Family
You know the people, so it's not awkward, and it's fun to shoot people

8. Shoot in the Dark
It's a good experiment with lighting and flash

9. Tell a Story in 5 Pictures
A good way to have one focus but to be able to do a wide variety of things

10. Take a Self Portrait
Very fun, can have a lot of variety

Publication Assignment 6.1

 

 OUT WITH A BANG: 

Senior Diana gets ready to clap the clapper, signifying the start of the scene. She has to make sure that the director can tell which clip is which when the students start editing.

SURVEYING THE SCENE:

It's hard working directing a group of girls, and Rosa knows that. She has to make sure that everything is in order before starting to film.

 MESSING AROUND:

AV students Elan Gay and Trinity Gonzalez play around in the wheelchairs between shots. They staged wheelchair races and jousting matches while filming.

Mirrorless Cameras

A mirrorless camera does not have a mirror and has an electronic viewfinder instead of an optical one. They are also typically much smaller and thinner than DSLRs. They also use their main imaging sensor for focusing, and DSLRs have a separate autofocus module.

Pros:

• Typically smaller
• Hybrid autofocus- more accurate and consisent, awareness of the scene- can pinpoint subject's eye
• Better able to shoot videos
• More modern and new lenses to use

Cons:

• Less consistent performance because it's still being experimented on
• Smaller battery life
• Electronic viewfinder lag behind the action

You should get some mirrorless, because there are advantages: better focus and a smaller body, but DSLRs are also good- we are more used to them, and they take less power to use.

This shows details well because it is a minute part of the building, but it shows what the school is about- art. I wanted to put it at an angle so that it wasn't too boring.
